We need a new currency symbol

One to indicate whether the dollar amount is inflation adjusted or not. I Imagine a $ with an arrow hat on the | So it’s an up arrow and an S. That will work for talking about historical figures in current day.

There is another problem though that is wanting to work backward, either by date or rate. So I would suggest the arrowed $, number and a divisor $14.7m/3.5 this would indicate to divide 14.7 by 3.5 to get the original dollar amount. Even if reading historical documents about inflated dollars, the original amount can be calculated.

Healthcare Solution Part 2 – The Insurer Magic

Monday, November 18th, 2013

Step 2: Insurance Company Magic

Now that the government has all the money from everyone with a TID, it’s got to get those people insured somehow. Very simply, we slice the market up in terms of market share of the existing insurers. Currently, we would have to slice this on a per-state business, but that is a minor detail. We then assign the people to the companies as indicated. Because the government is paying the insurance companies, they dictate the plan features. The government then pays for the coverage of the individual.

Controlling costs
With the government controlling the allocation of funds, and the coverage being the same for all individuals, immediately some insurers will be able to insure at lower average cost. Why this is does not really matter at the start. But I’ll call it insurer “magic”. after year 1, we re-allocate people to the cheaper insurers. However if we reallocate everyone, that would cause volatility. So there is a cap to the number of people who an be moved out of a insurer.

What happens then is the other half of the magic. Insurance companies, in order to profit more, need to keep the policies they have and add more policies. How do they get more policies? They come in under the average cost. If they are within a quartile of the average then nothing happens. In this way, we can move people out from more costly insurers to less costly insurers. This creates a downward price pressure So everyone should see healthcare approach a cheaper cost.

This cheaper cost is set by market rates and will eventually reach a natural minimum. At that point the funds to operate the should very stable, and very much lower than they are today as a group, even though more people are covered, and lower individually as individuals. There are no explicit price controls.

Insurers will be forced to operate efficiently. Because all insurers are all doing one plan, all have the same challenge. We still have these grouped by geography, so that cost-of-living issues will not be relevant, as in Montana vs New York City.

Those companies with minimal overhead would have the most profit and will be rewarded with more policies, for more profit. The wasteful and more expensive companies will shrink or invent new magic to survive.

The plan is that simple: one minimal government plan, that all companies get a chance to compete on, with downward price pressure baked in.

Healthcare Solution Part 1 – Single Collector

Monday, November 18th, 2013

The republican’t base of this country is focused on the fear of single-payer and its march to a socialist solution. Single payer means the claims are paid for by the government. I agree with them that this is a bad idea, to put the nation’s treasury between the people and the ever-increasing cost of healthcare in this country is a mistake. The people’s need for healthcare should not be tied to the financial well-being of the country. Especially when those same republicant’s almost caused default.

I would like to focus on the following aspects:

  • Minimal healthcare coverage for everyone with a taxpayer ID, or a dependent of someone with a TID.
  • Cheaper healthcare costs for all
  • Men and women pay the same price
  • No pre-existing conditions

Step 1: Single Collector
Rather than you paying your insurance company out of your paycheck, you pay it to the government. This is the same way Social Security or Medicaid are done today. If you are not employed or are self-employed, you will pay the “tax due” during a quarterly filing as is standard practice today.

Once the government has your money for healthcare, what happens next? That’s the next post…

The Healthcrap Solution

Obamacare is a joke.

Nancy Pelosi revealed it was a joke when she said “We have to pass it to find out what is in it.” Her words were not carefully chosen, but she meant what she said. What she really meant is no one really knew what the overall affect on the country would be.

The SCOTUS allowed this garbage legislation to be sustained as a tax. Obama promised he would not pass any new taxes during his presidency. Strike 1.

Obama also said “If you like your plan you can keep it. Period.” Strike 2. Millions are being dropped. More people are being transitioned to part-time so they lose wages and coverage. Strike 2.5.

Finally the botched launch of Obamacare website has left all those people in limbo. Strike 3.

My parents told me if I can’t say anything good, don’t say anything at all. They also said don’t criticize if you can’t suggest. So I’m going to do just that.

National Farce on Gun Control

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

The national gun debate underway is really a farce. The Liberals have no interest in rational thinking. The conservatives have no capacity to think rationally. So what ever we get out of this won’t be what the nation actually needs. The overall statistics are clear: guns are used in more suicides (18,000) vs murders (11,000). The few tragic shootings we’ve had have all been traced back to mental health issues. So there needs to be a mental health aspect to what ever solution is being proposed. It is also a fact that most gun crimes are done with a stolen weapon (including stolen from relatives). So there needs to be containment aspect as well. Ammo controls and extended background checks are would not have prevented the recent tragedies.

On the mental health aspect.
The fact that most guns are used in suicides, and only a few others choose to go out in a hail of bullets taking innocents indicates that there is a natural human decadency to not shoot each other. I contend that much of the homicide from guns is a result of the illegal drug trade. That is a subject for another post, but briefly, without the courts and legitimacy from government, a gun becomes the arbiter of justice on the street. I could go so far as saying that government is responsible for its never negotiating with drug dealers hardline stance. But I digress. What is really needed is the ability for a person to confidently seek mental heath help without fearing the government is going to take their lawful guns. What we can do about this is simple. When someone seeks mental health treatment, the mental heal administrator determines if the guns should be seized. If so, we appoint a custodian of fire arms to store the firearms until the mental health administrator signs off for their release. The important thing here is that the custodian is not he government. It can be a friend, a relative, a complete stranger or a corporation. The important part is the custodian has proper firearm storage and is bound to follow the instructions of the mental health administrator. As long as the custodian follows the instructions of the MHA, he or she is not liable for any mishaps before during or after being the administrator. However if they violate the MHA’s orders while being the custodian, they are personally liable. The custodian can charge a fee. The overall important thing about this is that he government has no ability o to seize guns, never has the guns, and does not factor into their release. This is necessary for people to trust their MHA as well as the custodian for them to seek and cooperate with the treatment.

On the issue of stolen guns. The solution is simple. To require proper and adequate gun storage for the registered firearms. This in no way affects our ability o own whatever kind of firearm. But it does affect the ability for criminals to not be able to steal firearms in robberies, for kids to find them by accident and use them, for trusted kids to obtain them from storage without parent’s knowledge and consent. We cannot guarantee that the storage will be used but once it is there there is a good chance that it will be. It also helps with finding a custodian, as nearly everyone will have a gun locker with space available.

These two simple measures alone would have prevented the tragedies that have unfolded and are about to unfold on this great nation. I do not know what is ahead for us, especially today. But I guarantee with the speed it is being executed, what we will get is not what this country needs.
